Someone will sell an item of kids clothes for .99 on ebay with free shipping. How do they do this and make money? Wouldn’t the shipping cost more than you would get for a return? Do you just hope that the bids will cover it?

people can do this
1) they just want to get rid of it
2) ya they might think the bid covers it
3) they might be selling multiple clothing pieces so it will pay for itself :]
4) When people get good reviews people are more bound to buy from them

Is there a “catch” to the offer? Do they ask your credit card number, expiration date, your birthdate, even social security number? If it is, you know it’s a scam. They are trying to steal your identity or use your credit card information for fraudulant purposes. Nobody gives away things for free or gives away things costing them just on giving.
When a seller offers auctions starting at .99 with free shipping they are usually trying to draw people into bidding on their item. It is typically a legit item they are just wanted to make some good money off of. They do hope that the bids will cover for both the cost of the item and the shipping. Many sellers must make a risk by doing this in order to make some money. The thing with Ebay is that the higher your starting auction price is, the higher the fee they charge you. And then don’t forget all those other fees ebay and pay pal charge you!! that is why many auctions start out so cheap.
