What is the difference between sequenced music and live musicians?
Question by Josselyn: What is the difference between sequenced music and live musicians?
I’m getting my lyrics turned into music. The cost for sequenced music is 0, sequenced music and live guitar is 0, and live musicians is 0.
I just want to know what the difference is between sequenced music and live musicians. Is one better than the other?
I am a lyricist. I only write song lyrics. I do not compose music. Basically, I am having someone else do all the composing for me. It is a legitimate producing studio in the city that I live in.

What has this to do with classical music?

You are asking this in a forum where may of us make our livings as LIVE musicians. I also have done a TON of professional sequencing – and each of these has its place, and I have done both for over 30 years.
If you intend to manipulate your music electronically, and are still in the process of refining the structure, etc. – the you can go with sequenced. If this is to be a legitimate demo, then NOTHING beats live music. However – you say that you are getting your *lyrics turned into music* – does that mean that you wrote ONLY lyrics, and someone else is doing all the composing of the music? Unless you are a PROFOUND lyricist – somebody is yanking your chain. Almost every kid I taught in HS and MS, for over 34 years, had notebooks full of sappy stuff – they would say “Hey! I wrote a song!” when it was just teen drivel. So – we need to know before we go ANY further – are you a legitimate lyricist AND composer who needs assistance in arranging and notation – or are you somebody who sent pages of WORDS ONLY to some musician who is charging you to compose (yeah, right) music to fit? I am VERY protective of my own students – and this needs more info before I give you any advice.
Please do not take this as criticism of YOU – but I think , based on what you have said, that you might be exploited.
Hi Lisa!
Contemporary pop music is often sequenced, whereas country and folk music are mostly recorded with real instruments. If you’re into hip hop, rap etc choose sequenced music. If it’s a ballad, classical piece, rock and roll etc choose live musicians. The biggest difference is drums.
It’s also possible that you don’t need a whole band. Perhaps it’s enough for you if you get in touch with a pianist or a guitar player who also can do the vocals.
Good luck!
