Noise is primarily the transmission. Compared to street cars that has Helix gears this one utilizes straight cut gears (called a dog box) which gives a high pitch noise. You can also sense noise from the differential.
It also has a short track 4.45:1 rear gear ratio. When he is on the long straight he is almost topped out. In the 120-140mph range would be? a good guess…. The car weighted in around 2500lbs if I can remember right… Just a little info on a very cool setup…
This is a very early production E46 body car (It’s a? sedan but they didn’t have the dash boards ready so it got fitted with an e36 dash.) It has a 2.5L S14 engine connected up with a sequential gear box. The noise is from the straight cut gears in the gear box. The car has a touch more then 300hp due to the almost DTM trim S14…. An old friend saw a few races with it and looked it over hard in the paddock…
That is likely the transmission that is making that noise. If it was a supercharger, the sound wouldn’t sound so much like it is coming from inside the car. Race cars sometimes have the transmission further back to aid in weight distribution, which may explain why it sounds like that whine is coming from right by the driver.
Awesome driving!!!
Great driver!
fast and decise but fair!
… and also very religious!
damn !, thats a loud supercharger !

He can drive very well!
you have the option to use a stick or paddles it’s all in how you want it to be setup
thats the wail of the transmission, the engine is barely audible.
e36 rulezzzz daaamn………!!!
when he first accelerates the car in the begining it sounds like a guys saying “whoa whoa whoa!” lol
BMW// THE BEST Love these cars)
I didn’t know that sequential gearboxes used a stick, I thought they used paddles behind the wheel, guess I’m wrong
I love the wail of the engine, sounds like it’s crying to get out!
@Quake120
The tranny is also probably hard mounted to the frame which will amplify even helical cut gear noise,
is that the 2.5l or 2.8l?
